Character Motivation: This isn't an easy one to answer. Her motivation changes depending on the situation, her mood... and how good she's trying to be. Mostly her motivation is just... whatever she wants. For her it's less about why she's doing it and more about how driven she is to do it. If she wants to impress the Doctor she will shake the heavens to do that. If she wants to kill someone she's just gonna go ahead and do it. Mostly her motivation is either whatever will keep her alive, makes the most sense in the moment... or is going to be the most fun.

That being said... since her time in the vault, her motivations have skewed a little. Now on top of fun and logic she has the added layer of "WWTDD" or What Would The Doctor Do? She does terribly want to be good, after all. She's trying!

Personality:
To try to sum up Missy in 250 words is like trying to fit the ocean in a water bottle. She's been mad for so very long. So many centuries of death and destruction and insanity fueled by the constant drumming in her head.

The drums may be gone, but the damage has been done. She regularly describes herself as "bananas" and she's right. She'll kill people to prove a point, has no problem using others as guinea pigs or as bait or as whatever best suits her needs in the moment. However, she also knows when to ask for help. When the Doctor sent her his confession dial she turned to the one person she knew could help her find her oldest, dearest friend. Of course, she almost got the Doctor to kill Clara by the end of that adventure, but old habits die hard.

The most complicated part about Missy, though, is the fact that she's turned a corner in her life. Partly by necessity, but she seems to be taking it to hearts. All of the terrible things she'd done had finally caught up to her and she was set to be executed. The Doctor was meant to guard a vault with her body in it for 1,000 years. He found a loop hole and instead of guarding her dead body, he imprisoned her in it. The result is Missy going cold turkey from evil. It's a rough road. A very rough road. A road she wouldn't be willing or able to travel without the Doctor's help. But she's made progress. She's had time to think about what she's done and who she's hurt... and killed. The worst part was when she realized she remembered their names. The so-called queen of evil is learning what it means to feel guilt and grieve and it hurts.

She has been trying to put her newfound desire to be good to good use, though. She's been educating herself and trying to figure out ways to help. Through some creative acquisitions she manages to communicate with ladies throughout history and try to unite them to help them get stronger and more badass. Contrary to what the Doctor thought, she really did just want to help. She's trying... she's just not very good at being good, yet.

The most difficult turning point for her unfortunately resulted in the end of her life. She'd seemingly teamed up with her past regeneration and they were destroying things and taking names. But upon a deeper look, she was teaming up with him so she could keep an eye on him. All of her actions, no matter how chaotic they look, are very deliberate. She was the one who knocked the Doctor into the keyboard, giving him precious moments to re-calibrate the Cybermen. She knocked out her previous regeneration, giving them time to escape. The Doctor might not have noticed or been there for all of the pushes she did against her younger self, but they were there. She kept him from killing a child who'd only followed them because she was curious. But the hardest choice she had to make, the one that broke her hearts, was the choice to leave the Doctor when he was begging for her to stay. She wanted to. Oh she so desperately wanted to. But she had something she had to do first. She had to stop herself... as it were. It was the only way to make sure he wouldn't hurt anyone else and to keep him from coming back and trying to kill the Doctor. So she made her choice. She left the Doctor in his time of need, so she could do one good act that ultimately killed her.

Missy is chaos and insanity, childlike whimsy, and psychopathic mahem, but she's trying to be at least something close to the good person the Doctor keeps telling her she can be. She has bad days... a lot of them... but the effort is being made. She just hopes that's enough.

Canon Strength/Weaknesses: Both her biggest strength and weakness is her mind. She's brilliant, an absolute genius. She rivals the Doctor with her intelligence, creativity, and ingenuity. However, she's completely and utterly bananas. Her moral values are skewed to a dramatic degree. She literally had to detox from badness because it just WAS her. So she can be amazing and brilliant and save the day... but she might suggest killing people to do it.

Apprentice Sorcerer Application
Class: Monster. The Doctor outright calls her a monster and she never disagrees with him. It's just what she is.
Element: Mercury. 'Cause you're hot then you're cold, you're yes then you're no, you're in then you're out, you're up then you're down, you're wrong when it's right, it's black and it's white..... you get the picture. More scientifically speaking, though, mercury can be incredibly useful if used properly or paired with other elements. Used by itself and/or improperly can cause insanity and/or death. It's a tricky element, much like Missy here.

First Person Sample:
[The feed turns on to reveal a grinning woman. The grin seems almost more shark-like than cheerful and it doesn't quite reach her eyes. But her voice is cheerful enough to make up for that.]

Why hello, dearies! Now that I've properly arrived and learned about this place, I have a very very important question to ask you all:

What has the Doctor been up to?

[She cackles with glee, waving a hand.]

Oh I know, I know. I could just ask him but where's the fun in that? I'd much rather hear it from you. What's the gossip? That's something you humans and other assorted lifeforms like to do, right? So go on, tell me. Has he been good? Has he been naughty? I'm dying to know.
